Che le nostre conversazioni possono essere intercettate, ormai è un fatto noto e più o meno tutti i fornitori del servizio di messaggistica, sono corsi ai ripari. Lo ha fatto anche WhatsApp grazie ad una tecnologia che lo rende più sicuro: la crittografia end-to-end.

Grazie a questo meccanismo di cifratura, WhatsApp non è così più in grado di leggere i messaggi nemmeno se viene obbligata, come a volte succede, dalle autorità giudiziarie o altro ente governativo.
WhatsApp ha appena stretto un accordo con note aziende di sviluppo di applicazioni quali Signal, Redphone e TextSecure, tutte ritenute estremamente sicure. L'accordo preso con Open Whisper Systems, fa pensare che WhatsApp goda di reputazione in tema di sicurezza.
E' la prima applicazione per messaggistica istantanea per dispositivi mobili a dotarsi di un affidabile sistema di cifratura delle comunicazioni.
La crittografia end-to-end per il momento è attiva nella versione destinata ai terminali Android; gli utenti Apple iOS potranno scaricarla in un secondo tempo.

1. Scaricare la versione di WhatsApp più sicura sui dispositivi Android

7. Completato il download del pacchetto d'installazione in formato APK, basterà aprirlo per avviare l'aggiornamento della versione di WhatsApp correntemente in uso sul dispositivo mobile.
8. La versione 2.11.448, oltre al supporto per la crittografia end-to-end, consente di disattivare le conferme di lettura (doppia spunta di colore blu).
