Twitter pone maggiore attenzione ai tweet più importanti, con l'introduzione di una nuova funzionalità. la timeline While you were away! La novità provvederà ad evidenziare nella propria Timeline quello che ritiene essere i tweet più importanti che sono passati inosservati all'occhio disattento degli utenti, ma le novità che sono state annunciate qualche mese fa non finiscono qui.

Twitter ha dato ufficialmente il via all'utilizzo della nuova funzione "Timeline Highlights" che provvederà ad appuntare evidenziandone il contenuto, tutti quei tweet che ritiene importanti e che sono passati inosservati agli utenti perché forse nel momento in cui sono stati publbicati non si era potuto essere connessi, cosi almeno lascia intendere il The Guardian.
L'inizio della suddetta sperimentazione riguardo la nuova funzione timeline ha avuto di fatto inizio nel mese di settembre 2014. In quel preciso periodo, il vice presidente dei prodotti di Twitter Kevin Weil dichiarò in un post sul suo blog:
"Siamo in grado di utilizzare le informazioni come chi si segue per dirvi quello che vi siete persi e di mostrarvi i tweet più importanti non appena si riapre l'app." Twitter è una piattaforma straordinaria per mantenersi aggiornati con le notizie, opinioni e generalmente ciò che sta accadendo nel mondo mentre accade.Con olre 500 milioni di tweet che vengono inviati quotidianamente, è normale essere invasi da una quantità esorbitante di informazioni che gli utenti da ogni parte del mondo provvedono a pubblicare, cosi può succedere che qualche tweet potrebbe passare inosservato. Adesso grazie a questa nuova funzione, Twitter sta provvedendo di rendere la sua piattaforma un po' meno di massa. Pare infatti che la società abbia preso spunto dalla sua maggiore concorrente, Facebook, che fa uso del suo algoritmo per adattare le timeline degli utenti a seconda di ciò che la piattaforma stessa pensa possano essere post più importanti e interessanti e non solo i più recenti. Finora l'aggiornamento che fa uso della "Timeline Highlights" appare solo nell'app Twitter per iOS.
Ad usufruire di tale funzionalità, TechCrunch pone la sua attenzione sul fatto che certi utenti hanno provveduto ad attivarla dall'inizio dello scorso dicembre, ma pare che il rilascio della stessa abbia avuto una notevole impennata durante la vigilia dell'arrivo del nuovo anno, quando sempre più utenti hanno iniziato a vedere i tweet "While You Were Away" sull'app mobile.
Le risposta da parte degli utenti alla nuova funzione, è alquanto varia e discordante, segno che ci vorrà maggiore tempo per capire se ha riscosso il favore dell'utenza oppure no. Twitter ha anche detto a novembre che sta provando a realizzare nuove funzionalità come ad esempio una "timeline personalizzata" per i nuovi utenti in maniera tale che i loro profili possano essere immediatamente riempiti di tweet e consigli di altri profili da iniziare a seguire.
Tutti questi nuovi aggiornamenti sono stati sviluppati per rendere Twitter più semplice ed intuitivo nel suo utilizzo, con il chiaro intento di attirare ancor più utenti ed invogliare tutti coloro che magari si sono stancati, ad usufruire del servizio concedendo alla piattaforma un'ulteriore possibilità.
